Privacy Policy for MVCSD Website – Staff Login

Maquoketa Valley Community School District (“MVCSD,” “the District,” “we,” or “us”) provides MVCSD Website – Staff Login to allow authorized District staff to sign in to the District website using their Google Workspace accounts and submit materials for possible use in District communications and social media.

Information obtained from Google

When you choose to sign in with Google, the application requests only the OpenID Connect scopes needed for authentication: openid, profile, and email.

Google may provide:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your District email address
  • A unique Google account identifier
  • Email-verification status
  • Your Google Workspace hosted-domain identifier
  • Basic profile information, such as a profile picture or locale, if returned by Google

The application uses your hosted-domain identifier and email domain to confirm that you are signing in with an authorized maquoketa-v.k12.ia.us Google Workspace account.

The application does not request access to your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, contacts, calendars, passwords, or other Google Workspace content.

How Google user data is used

Google user data is used only to:

  • Authenticate authorized MVCSD staff
  • Create or identify a corresponding WordPress account
  • Maintain the user’s signed-in session
  • Synchronize the user’s name and District email address
  • Automatically identify the staff member submitting a form
  • Prevent unauthorized access and investigate security or technical problems

Google user data is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, data brokerage, or artificial-intelligence model training. We do not sell Google user data.

Our use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Storage and retention

WordPress account information, Google identity claims, and technical authentication records may be stored on the District website’s server. OAuth/OpenID token information may be retained or replaced as needed to establish and maintain authentication sessions.

Form submissions and uploaded materials are retained according to District operational needs, applicable record-retention practices, and legal obligations. Information may also remain temporarily in routine system backups after deletion from the active website.

Sharing and disclosure

Google user data is available only to authorized District personnel and service providers that operate or secure the website. We may disclose information:

  • To service providers necessary to host, maintain, or secure the application
  • When directed or authorized by the user
  • When required by law, court order, public-records requirements, or District policy
  • To investigate misuse, fraud, or security incidents

We do not transfer Google user data to advertisers, data brokers, information resellers, or unrelated third parties.

Content intentionally submitted for District publication may be shared publicly. The staff member’s Google account identifier and technical authentication information are not intended for public publication.

Cookies and technical information

The website uses cookies necessary to maintain WordPress login sessions and application security. Web-server and security logs may record information such as IP address, browser type, requested pages, login timestamps, and error information.

Google may separately use cookies during authentication under Google’s own privacy policies.

Security

MVCSD uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS encryption, access controls, software updates, and restricted administrative access. No internet-based system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your choices and deletion requests

You may stop using the application at any time. Authorized staff may request correction or deletion of their WordPress account information or associated Google identity data, subject to applicable District policies, public-records obligations, security requirements, and backup-retention cycles.

This application is intended for authorized MVCSD employees and staff members. It is not intended for direct use by students or the general public.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the application, applicable law, or our data-handling practices change. The current version will be posted on this page with its effective date.
